Local 338 - bettering the lives of our members and all working people!
Just One Example of How Local 338 Has Helped Our Members Today:
We were successfully able to put a baker, who was suspended for three days, back to work and with full back pay!

 Our Brothers and Sisters at
RWDSU Local 200 Need Our Support!

At the Mott's applesauce plant in Williamson, New York, over 300 of our brothers and sisters at RWDSU Local 220 have gone on strike as they fight for a fair contract.  Local 220 who represent the workers at the plant have gone on strike against Mott's parent company Dr. Pepper Snapple Group Inc, due to unfair contract negotiations.  Workers at the plant are fighting to keep their wages, pensions, and health care benefits. Over the years DPS (Dr. Pepper Snapple Group) recorded record profits and watched their stock sky rocket.  Over the last three years DPS's CEO Larry Young as received at 28 percent raise to bring his salary to a staggering $6.5 million a year.

Despite the record profits the company is demanding for their employees to take a pay cut of at least $1.50 per hour, a pension freeze and elimination of pensions for future workers.  They also want to increase employee contributions and co-pays for health care and cut contributions to the 401k.

Our brothers and sisters refuse to accept such an offer that will negatively impact their lives and families.  The members of Local 220 deserve their pay as they worked hard for this company. It was the effort of workers who helped push the company to its current success.  Unfortunately the company does not value its employees as they try to take advantage of a weak upstate economy and high unemployment rates in the area.  The corporate greed demonstrated by DPS is inexcusable.

As the Local 220 stands strong and fights for their lively hood they need our help.  Help send a message to Dr. Pepper Snapple group and show support for Local 220 and workers rights and help the workers of Mott's the fair contract the deserve by

Local 338 Fighting to Keep NYC Wal-Mart Free!

On June 23, 2010, Local 338 joined the RWDSU family and New York Communities for Change for a press conference and rally on the steps of City Hall to keep New York City Wal-Mart free. Wal-Mart is rumored to currently be looking to build a new location in Brooklyn. With poverty level wages and countless labor violations, Wal-Mart lowers the standard of living for working families.

The press conference and rally was a way of showing Wal-Mart that the labor movement and community groups will stand-up and fight to prevent corporate greed from sneaking into our city. NYC Council Speaker Christine Quinn and several members of the New York City Council joined RWDSU President Stuart Appelbaum, and Local 338 Secretary Treasurer Murray J. Morrissey to pledge their support of our efforts to keep NYC Wal-Mart free. New Yorkers deserve quality jobs and opportunity within their communities and while Wal-Mart has tried unsuccessfully to open stores in four of New York City's boroughs, Brooklyn is unwilling to fall victim to their policies that place profit before people. New York Communities for Change presented Speaker Quinn with 4500 signed petitions strongly opposing the development of the new Wal-Mart from Starrett City Residents.

Local 338 Health & Welfare Fund Will Now Be Covering All ELIGIBLE Adult Dependent Children Until the Age of 26

Beginning August 1, 2010, the benefit plans of Local 338 RWDSU/UFCW will now cover the adult dependent children of members, until they reach the age of 26. This is a new requirement under the health care reform legislation passed earlier this year that does not take effect until next year.  However, the trustees of Local 338 Health & Welfare Fund and Local 338 Benefits Fund believe extending such a benefit early would be of great assistance to our members.

Adult dependent children are entitled to the same benefits as minors, regardless of residency or marital status, so long as they do not have available health coverage through their own employment.  However, the children and spouses of dependents are not eligible for coverage.

In order to qualify, please print out and complete the appropriate form (included in the link below) and provide Local 338 with the proper certificates. This information must then be mailed to the Local 338 Fund Office at:
            1505 Kellum Place
            Mineola, New York 11501
