Special Tax Credit for Working Families

The Earned Income Credit is a special tax credit, which could lower what you owe in taxes. More importantly, if eligible for the Earned Income Credit, you could actually receive money back from the IRS. In order to apply, you must file a federal tax return even if you did not earn enough to owe federal taxes for 2009.

Please Help the Haitian Earthquake Relief Efforts

On Tuesday, January 12 Haiti was struck by a series of catastrophic earthquakes. Much of the country currently lay in ruins and thousands of people have been injured or killed. Millions of men, women, and children are now homeless and without life's basic necessities, including food and medical attention.

Haiti is a poor country and a natural disaster of this magnitude is particularly devastating. It will take a global effort to help in its recovery and rebuilding. It is important that Local 338 and the labor movement stand strong with our brothers and sisters in Haiti. Local 338 is asking you to make a donation to one of the organizations listed below. Whatever amount you can give is essential to the relief efforts that will provide the necessary aid to the people of Haiti.

The following organizations are accepting contributions for Haiti Relief and Development Efforts (Please click the name of the organization to visit their donation website):

Checks can also be sent to:
Solidarity Center Education Fund

888 16th Street, N.W., Suite 400

Local 338 Endorses New York Comptroller Tom Dinapoli for Re-Election

On February 11, Local 338, RWDSU, and dozens of other unions announced their endorsement of New York State Comptroller Tom Dinapoli for re-election in November. Despite the blizzard the previous day, Local 338 was there on the steps of City Hall to show support for Comptroller DiNapoli.

Comptroller DiNapoli has had a long career in public service, having served in the New York State Assembly for twenty years before becoming Comptroller in 2007. Comptroller DiNapoli has been dedicated to his community, in addition to being a great friend of Labor. He has worked on behalf of the needs of working men and women and their families, a tradition that he will continue in the future. Local 338 is proud to support Comptroller DiNapoli in his re-election bid.

With the help of Local 338's wonderful members they were able to meet this goal. On behalf of John Theissen we thank you for all of your contributions. Please make sure to check the website in the coming months for information about how to donate toys this year.
